Aloha Friday #3?

Hmmm... it's been another busy week around here, and I have been making many resolutions to try to improve... well everything.  Yes, I know I beat myself up too much, but I'm working on it.

I have so many questions for the blogosphere right now, I am having a tough time choosing one.  In a post earlier this week, I mentioned that my family went from a 1 income family to a no income family (in December).  Well, as of this week, we have a part time income (I think), so maybe it was just time for us to be honest with the cosmos so that we can change direction.

Okay so my question for this week...  Do you budget?  And if so, do you have any tips for someone who is just getting started in the world of formal budgeting (and working with someone who doesn't understand the meaning of the word)?

  1. When we were travelling last year I started recording all the money we spent everyday, no matter how little. It was really interesting to see how much you actually spend. We had no idea. It is all the little 5 dollars here and there that can really add up. It isn't really a formal budget, but it does help to know where all the money goes!!!

  3. We have an informal budget that we did years ago when we bought our house. We looked at it again when we signed up the little guy for nursery school in the fall. Pretty depressing stuff.

  4. We do budget - we had to when we went from a 2 income family to 1 when I decided to become a SAHM. Hubby even has an excel spreadsheet set up that he pores over each payday to make sure no bills get lost in the shuffle. When we plan for trips, we start setting aside money six months to a year prior so we have enough saved up not to be stressed (like our trip coming up in a couple of weeks to visit my sister in Iowa). :)

  6. It is not an official budget, but if I do not have the cash for something I will not buy it.

  7. Yes we budget we kind of go by what we know is coming out & what we have. We always pay bills first before anything else. I am now following you :)

  8. we are trying to learn too! we went from 2 incomes to none back to one!I am so sorry to hear about yourfinancial hard times! I,too don't get the meaning either!
We are trying to keep track of everthing we spend in one month.
Then write down all of our bills and what we spend then compare and see what we can trim up! HTH
